Interlibrary
Loan (Non OhioLINK)
|
|
| :: Purpose:
To locate and obtain many resources not owned by
SSU or OhioLink libraries upon request. Loanable
materials may include books, journal & newspaper articles,
dissertations, microform materials, and other
circulating documents (including media items).
|
| :: Who has Access:
All SSU students, faculty and staff with a valid
University I.D. and library barcode; registered community patrons,
retired faculty,
and alumni.
|
| ::
Submitting Requests:
Before submitting a request to ILL, it is
important to search the online catalog to see if the item is owned
by SSU
or available through OhioLink.
If not available in the local or
OhioLINK central
catalog, request may be submitted by completing the
Online ILL
Request Form or ILL request
forms available at the Reference Counter. To avoid delays in processing, citations
provided should be complete and accurate, including information
about where the citation was found, i.e., name of index,
bibliography, etc.
|
| :: Turnaround:
An ILL transaction can take as little as 48 hours (OhioLINK
delivery) or up to 3-4 weeks depending on
several factors, including the time of year, library workload,
degree of difficulty in locating owning library, availability, mail
service, etc. The average turnaround for books is 5-10 days and for
articles is 3-10 days.
|
| :: Charges:
There is currently no charge for most ILL
book requests. Photocopies of requested articles are 10 cents per page.
Fees for faculty or staff requests that cannot be obtained from free
lenders are charged to a department account or must be paid by the
individual. Fees are determined by the individual lending library and can
range from 10 cents per page to $20 per item.
|
| ::
Notification & Pickup:
When ILL materials arrive, users are notified by email
or phone for pick-up at the Circulation counter.
|
| ::
Limits & Restrictions:
ILL is not intended to provide materials assigned
for class (texts or course reserve). In the interest of service to
our students, every attempt will be made to see that all of their
requests will be filled first. Because of periodic changes in
funding and staffing levels, excessive requests for one user may be
delayed.
|
| ::
Copyright
licensing restrictions limit the
number of articles libraries may request from a particular journal.
In the event that the article needed is from a restricted journal, library
staff will assist to locate similar material or provide instruction
for using fee-based article delivery services.
|
| :: Returns & Renewals:
ILL books should be returned on or before the due
date. Due dates (and any special restrictions) are set by the lending
library and must be adhered to. Books must be returned ONLY to
the Circulation counter, or library return slots and should never
be placed on shelves or book trucks located in the library. Renewals must be requested prior to the due
date. To make a Renewal Request, ask circulation staff or email the
ILL Manager. Email Renewal Requests must include the ILL number
and the book title. Please note that renewals cannot be
granted by Circulation Staff. They can only assist with placing
a renewal request to the lending library.
|
| ::
Lost/Damaged Items:
Lost or damaged item(s) will need to be
replaced. Costs are determined by the lending institution.
