Curriculum Materials Center & Graphics Lab

The Curriculum Materials Center & Graphics Lab are located on Level 1 in Clark Memorial Library    740.351.3513

    • contains the Library's Pre-K to Grade 12 resources -- and professional resources for those who work with children in educational settings.
    • provides an environment for learner-centered, inquiring educators to independently or collaboratively examine, create, review, and/or adapt instructional resources in print, realia, audiovisual, multimedia, and Web formats.

Finding Teaching Resources in the CMC

Virtually all of the teaching resources in the CMC are cataloged and are shelved by their Call Numbers.  To find an item, first do a "Quick Search for Books, Videos, Etc."

Books, videos, and other resources that focus on classroom practices in teaching and learning; diversity, multiculturalism, and inclusion; educational management strategies; and professional development are generally found in the CMC.  Books that focus on more theoretical, political, and administrative issues in education are generally located in the Circulating Stacks.

Children's and adolescents' literature is also in the CMC.   These items can be identified in a "Quick Search for Books, Videos, Etc." and will have the location CMC (Child). (See Finding Teaching Resources for an example of how to find materials.)    If you cannot find children's literature on a particular topic (like "sibling rivalry"), check A to Zoo: Subject Access to Children's Picture Books, the Best Books series, the Wilson Core Collections (Children's Catalog, Middle and Junior High School Catalog, Senior High School Catalog), or Books Kids Will Sit Still For in CMC Reference.  Children's Literature online is accessible via the TumbleBook Library

Quick Search for Books, Videos, etc:

If you have done a WORD or TITLE search, you can scroll through the brief list to see items that are in the CMC.  If the number of results is large, you can click on the MODIFY SEARCH button and limit results to CMC, CMC (CHILD), etc.

If you began with an AUTHOR or SUBJECT search, in the results list page, click the Extended Display button. Extended Display shows the location -- CMC, CMC (Child), CMC (Reference), etc., call number, and availability.

If the list is lengthy, or if most items are not in the CMC, click either the MODIFY SEARCH button OR the LIMIT/SORT SEARCH button.  ... and limit to Location: CMC -- or for children's literature to CMC (Child).  (NOTE: the list of locations is NOT in alphabetical order -- scroll down to see the CMC options.)

You can also limit your search to a particular Material Type such as Videos.

Finding Articles and ERIC Documents

Generally, it is quickest and easiest to use a Research Database to locate periodical articles, and, especially, to find journal articles and ERIC documents.  The "best" research databases for teacher education are suggested in the table below; for a more complete listing see Education Research Databases.

If you prefer to browse, current issues of a number of children's and teacher's periodicals are available in the CMC, while current issues of scholarly journals in education are in Current Periodicals on Level 2.  Back issues of children's, teachers magazines, and scholarly journals are in micro on Level 2.

For online articles, always check the OLinks Find a Copy option -- even if you are in a database that shows HTML and/or PDF Full Text links.   The millions of  journal articles in the OhioLINK EJC are accessible only via OLinks (Find It!).
